BizSnap User's Guide

BizSnap makes converting business cards into contacts and capturing receipt details on your device easy and fun. This guide describes the basic usage of BizSnap and offers hints and tips on getting the best results and to help ensure it is easy and fun.

Overview

BizSnap operates in two modes, card mode and receipt mode. To switch modes simply select the appropriate tab at the bottom of the main screen.

BizSnap uses the camera on your device and your photography skills to capture an image of a business card or receipt. From there BizSnap does the rest by processing the image through our cutting edge OCR engine and contact/receipt data identification rules algorithm. From that process the business card image is converted into classified text elements that can be used to create a contact on your device. A receipt image is converted into classified text elements that can be e-mailed for use in expense report generation.

The typical contact creation scenario is as follows,

  1. "Snap" a Business Card, and give it a name/description
  2. Save it and "snap" another business card (if needed)
  3. Submit one or more snaps for OCR and contact field processing
  4. Create a contact from a "snap" that completed processing

The typical receipt capture scenario is as follows,

  1. "Snap" a receipt, and give it a name/description
  2. Save it and "snap" another receipt (if needed)
  3. Submit one or more snaps for OCR and receipt field identification
  4. Verify and adjust the OCR text results and e-mail the results to yourself for expense report creation.

When you press this button, BizSnap launches the iPhone camera and waits for you to snap a picture. While the camera is active you can retake the photo as many times as you wish, press the "Use" button on the camera when you're satisfied with the picture.

Photo Tips:

  • Ensure the area is well lit with bright ambient light
  • Orient the camera to match the text orientation on the business card (e.g., landscape -> landscape, portrait -> portrait)
  • Position the iPhone close enough to the business card such that the text fills the viewfinder but not so close that the camera is unable to focus sharply
  • Be as still as possible when taking the picture; since the iPhone camera does not include image stabalization it's very easy to take blurry pictures as a result of the slightest movements.

After you select the picure, BizSnap presents its preview screen (where you can enter a description for the card snap, submit it for immediate processing, or save it for processing later.
